The sturdy wall between us, I put up for our own good,

Protecting both our feelings, hoping you understood.

Refusing to reveal to you, how I truly feel,

Gathering every strength, I must go against my will.

Treading dangerous grounds, you reach out to connect,

My wishes and requests you cautiously respect.

Letting me know that your love is undying,

In this lifetime or the next, you vow to keep trying.

Like a night bird in the skies, carrying a heavy weight,

Hovering in the darkness, for the lover you await.

With the moon as your witness as you swear with all your heart,

That it is I, you want to be with, and we shall never be apart.

Hearing your voice, made me tremble inside,

Knowing you still loved me, a fact you dare not hide.

The loving reassurance that nothing has changed,

Despite the distance between us that led us estranged.

I love how you talk as if I am still in your present world,

Albeit the many challenges, to each other we had hurled.

I teared up when I realized you still see me in your future.

With devotion so strong, believing we were never losers.

Reminding myself why I had to put up that wall,

Transparent in your eyes, though sturdy and tall.

You can read my mind inside out, no matter where you are,

Feeling the beating of my heart, and what is in its reservoir.

Treading dangerous grounds, am I getting way too close?

Will I put myself in the deep if I feel the water with my toes?

Justifying to myself, I cannot drown in shallow waters,

Yet nudging myself to do what is right and follow my honor.

Where do you get the courage in your mind, in your heart,

To fight for our sacred love when I easily fall apart?

Scared to find myself, falling hard for you again,

Waiting and discerning for what my soul wants to attain.

Until we are both ready, we need to distance ourselves,

Separate lives we must iron, so we do not get overwhelmed.

When we are done, and we still feel that we are truly meant to be,

The tall and sturdy wall, together we'll tear down and ultimately break free.
