Perplexed with the plague that keep us awake
One after the other, can't seem to get a break
The fear of the unknown, the uncertainties of tomorrow
Illness and death keeps us grieving with sorrow
It started with the virus that shook the whole nation
Required to wear a mask for everyone's protection
Caught us all off guard, turned our world upside down.
Cancelled schools and businesses as we were placed in a lockdown
While faced with adversity of the global pandemic
Like a punch in the gut with issues that are systemic
Voices wanting to be heard, they rally, "Black Lives Matter"
People come together, around the world they scatter
Everyone's raising voices, they just want to be heard
But they fall on deaf ears as though they were absurd
Riot and destruction follow the rallies,
As if chaos is not enough, so just put up with more follies
Cobwebs in our ears make it difficult to hear
How do we heed, one must listen, dear
Cobwebs in our eyes, completely blurs our full vision
How can we act out of our own volition
Cobwebs in our minds, can't seem to see the light
Blurred vision and mission, how do we face our plight
Cobwebs in our hearts, entangled with such anger
How do we heal and slow down and get out of this danger
Cobwebs in our souls, filled with pain and sorrow
How do we heal and face our tomorrow
To change the world, stop looking at one's skin
Be the change, and pull the light that comes from within
We all want the world to change for the better
But to do that, we must stop and look no further
Our hearts and souls, are all one and the same,
Yellow, white, brown, red, black - we all have a name
Our colored skins will wilt and dry,
One day, we'll have to say goodbye
Let's focus on what's within and set our goals
Because in the end we can only take our souls
