My Secret Love

Secret Love, by Lou Principe, Acrylic, 9 X 12

Darkness falls, we meet in the woods, as we sit under the moon,

Holding hands, without a word, with each other we get attuned.

Butterflies in my stomach, goosebumps in my skin,

In your presence, I'm in heaven, my head is in a spin.

We talked, we laughed, we dreamed, we shared our passions true.

We dared to pursue our secret love, our families had no clue.

Staring into each other's eyes, we must have awakened our souls,

We end up finding our way back home so that we can both be whole.

Will we proudly avow our sacred love above the mountain tops,

Fight 'til the end when chaos emerge before our beating heart stops?

Will we promise to hold each other close, and stay when we're at our worst,

Faithful commitment we both deserve, regardless how our lives reversed?

Seems like forever, I have waited for you, and now you say you're mine,

Elated yet unbelieving, is this how it feels to be in cloud nine?

Will you find me insane if I tried to squeeze and pinch my skin,

Wanting these to be all real, to find you're my soul's twin?

Alas, my love! I realize, the blissful cloud nine was only an illusion,

Finding myself alone by the moon, entangled in my wild imagination!

The vision of you started to disappear like a mystifying smoke,

The reality of us, that we were never real, makes me want to choke.

Once I had a secret love, so secret he didn't know,

In my dreams, he holds me close, my sweet loving beau.

It felt so real! How could it be, that this love was only a dream?

All in my head, my heart and my soul, existing in my own realm.
