The Courage to be Free, Mixed Medium, 9 X 12

When shadows peek in our peripheral view,

do we wipe our eyes twice before we look anew?

When music plays and touches us to our core,

do we dance to the beat; our emotions, do we explore?

When tingling sensation creeps through our skin,

can we identify the feelings, do we try to look within?

When wisdom whispers into our very own hearts,

can we practice the lessons, can we master the art?

When dared to take a risk, to go out and ride the waves,

do we have determination, are we really that brave?

Do we totally surrender every time we say our prayers;

or do we continue to worry about each of our affairs?

When the Eternal Father offers love and puts us to the test,

do we wait for “the one”, or do we settle for second best?

When we haven't quite learned to love ourselves first,

do we dare dive-in the deep just to quench our own thirst?

Do we enter relationships for the sake of having one?

To avoid running solo, do we settle for just anyone?

One might ask, “Is it fair to lose oneself in the process?”

In tolerating others, authentic emotions we suppress.

When given the option to be right or to find peace,

do we choose to be triumphant, or patience do we increase?

With gazillion list of worries to prepare for the worst,

can we aim for positivity, while negativity, we reverse?

Can we choose to become content, and no longer join confusion,

rebuking sin and temptation, choosing silence and seclusion?

Retreating to solitude while we keep still, we contemplate,

surrendering to God all that we carry on our weight.

Can we trade our selfish ways, and choose God for a change,

accepting all trials, embracing our crosses in exchange?

Realizing our imperfections, correcting mistakes of the past,

finding inner strength in God, the courage to be free at last.
